Renouvelé en 2022 pour 5 ans par ses deux instituts de rattachement INS2I et INSHS, et avec le soutien de l’INEE, le GdR CNRS MAGIS réunit 350 chercheurs et ingénieurs de 55 unités de recherche qui travaillent au carrefour de l’informatique, de la géographie, des sciences environnementales.

Ces journées sont un moment privilégié pour prendre connaissance des feuilles de routes des 5 chantiers transversaux et des 14 groupes de travail (appelés Actions de Recherche) qui rythmeront l’activité du GdR pendant les 5 prochaines années.

Cette manifestation est organisée autour d’une session plénière qui se déroulera en présentiel (lundi 21 mars après-midi et mardi 22 mars toute la journée) et d’ateliers – organisés en présentiel et en mode hybride pour certains – qui se tiendront en amont ou en aval de la plénière.

Les JFMS sont un rendez-vous biennal de la communauté des chercheurs francophones travaillant sur le formalisme DEVS et plus largement sur la théorie de la Modélisation et de la Simulation initié par B.P. Zeigler. Placées sous le signe de l’échange et de l’interdisciplinarité, ces journées sont ouvertes vers d’autres disciplines et vers l’ensemble des domaines d’applications de la modélisation et de la simulation. L’ouverture vers les entreprises et les organismes de recherche privés est un aspect important de cet atelier pour que les défis liés à l’ingénierie de la modélisation et de la simulation soient pleinement considérés. Cet atelier est un lieu privilégié d’échanges scientifiques et technologiques et permet aux jeunes chercheurs et aux doctorants de faire connaître leurs travaux, ainsi que faire émerger des collaborations ou encore répondre de manière collégiale à des appels à projet.

Call For Papers for DataPlat 2022, the 1st International Workshop on Data Platform Design, Management, and Optimization, which will be held on March 29, 2022 at Edinburgh, co-located with EDBT/ICDT.

DataPlat focuses on the challenges originating from the paradigm change imposed by big data, which has triggered the evolution of information systems into complex data platforms or data ecosystems supporting data-intensive storage, computation, and analysis of data with heterogeneous structures. Over the last years, several research proposals have been made concerning vertical solutions that address different parts of the data management lifecycle within complex data-intensive ecosystems. DataPlat is aimed at funneling these efforts towards the development of data platforms as data-intensive ecosystems supporting data scientists and architects at a high level, and fosters innovative research solutions that contribute to further advancements in this field. DataPlat covers the topics of metadata modeling, collection, and storage to capture the distinguishing features of the data; the enabling of advanced functionalities spanning from research and data profiling to provenance control, orchestration of data transformation pipelines, incremental data integration, and efficient querying; data integration and querying within heterogeneous storage and computation engines, including multi-model DBMSs, polystores and cloud storage systems; the simplification of data management and fruition by data scientists, including artificial intelligence solutions and AutoML techniques.

The deadline for paper submission is December 12, 2021.

Authors of the best papers will be invited to submit an extended version to a Special Issue with Elsevier’s Future Generation Computer Systems (FGCS) journal (IF: 7.187).

Context
The web and social media have democratized information sharing and have become the main source of information for citizens, risking users to rely on shallow information in sources prioritizing commercial or political incentives rather than the correctness and informational value. Non-experts tend to avoid scientific literature due to its complex language, internal vernacular, or their lack of prior background knowledge. Text simplification approaches hold the promise to remove some of these barriers. The SimpleText track is a part of the CLEF initiative which promotes the systematic evaluation of information access systems, primarily through experimentation on shared tasks. SimpleText addresses the challenges of text simplification approaches in the context of promoting scientific information access, by providing appropriate data and benchmarks. The track uses a corpus of scientific literature abstracts and popular science requests. It features three tasks.

Tasks
We invite you to submit both automatic and manual runs! Manual intervention should be reported.

* Task 1: What is in (or out)? Select passages to include in a simplified summary, given a query.

* Task 2: What is unclear? Given a passage and a query, rank terms/concepts that are required to be explained for understanding this passage (definitions, context, applications,..).

* Task 3: Rewrite this! Given a query, simplify passages from scientific abstracts.

* In addition, we welcome any other type of submission that uses our data as an open task.

Context

Humour remains one of the most difficult aspects of intercultural communication: understanding humour often requires understanding implicit cultural references and/or double meanings, and this raises the question of its (un)translatability. Wordplay is a common source of humour due to its attention-getting and subversive character. The translation of humour and wordplay is therefore in high demand. Modern translation depends heavily on technological aids, yet few works have treated the automation of humour and wordplay translation, or the creation of humour corpora. The goal of the JOKER workshop is to bring together translators and computer scientists to work on an evaluation framework for wordplay, including data and metric development, and to foster work on automatic methods for wordplay translation.

La simplification de textes est utilisée dans les domaines de la traduction,la localisation et la rédaction technique. La pré-édition consiste à préparer un document avant d’appliquer la traduction automatique afin d’obtenir de meilleurs résultats et de réduire la charge de travail de post-édition. C’est devenu un choix courant pour les entreprises publiant leur contenu dans différentes langues.

En outre, la simplification du texte améliore les applications de traitement automatique de la langue naturelle, notamment les résultats de la traduction automatique. Ainsi, la simplification automatique de textes pourrait s’avérer utile dans divers domaines tels que la communication scientifique, le journalisme scientifique, la politique et l’éducation, tant pour les cours de sciences que pour la didactique. La vulgarisation scientifique et le journalisme scientifique sont d’ailleurs l’un des plus anciens programmes de l’UNESCO.

Les textes simplifiés sont également plus accessibles aux locuteurs non natifs, aux jeunes lecteurs, aux personnes souffrant d’un handicap de lecture ou ayant un niveau d’éducation inférieur (objectif de développement durable INÉGALITÉ RÉDUITE).

Les textes scientifiques, tels que les publications de recherche, peuvent être difficiles à comprendre pour les non-experts du domaine ou les scientifiques qui ne sont pas concernés par la publication. L’amélioration de la compréhensibilité des textes et leur adaptation à différents publics restent un problème non résolu. La simplification de textes est un pas en avant vers la recherche réellement ouverte, accessible et compréhensible par tous, le développement d’un contre-discours aux fake news basées sur des résultats scientifiques, la possibilité s de lire plus rapidement et par conséquent, de devenir mieux informé.e sur les résultats scientifiques, notamment avec l’explosion de la science ouverte depuis le début de la pandémie actuelle de COVID-19 (objectif de développement durable ÉDUCATION DE QUALITÉ).

L’objectif de cette journée d’étude est de fournir une plateforme de communication à une communauté interdisciplinaire de chercheurs en traduction, rédaction technique, traitement du langage naturel, recherche d’information, linguistique, didactique, journalisme scientifique et vulgarisation scientifique.

The GRAPH-QUALITY Workshop at ECML-PKDD 2022 aims to explore the theoretical and practical aspects of quality of data, models and evaluation in the context of graph-based data mining and machine learning. We invite contributions in the area of Data and Model Quality for Mining and Learning with relational data (measures, algorithms, models, tools, evaluations, etc.) to be presented at the GRAPH-QUALITY workshop which is to be held at the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practices of Knowledge Discovery from Data (ECML-PKDD), in Grenoble, France – 23 September 2022.

All papers will be peer-reviewed single-blind. We welcome many kinds of papers, such as (and not limited to):

Authors should indicate in their abstract the kind of submissions that the paper belongs to, to help reviewers better understand their contributions. Novel research papers should be 10 to 16 pages (including references), work-in-progress, vision/position, and appraisal papers should be 6-10 pages (including references). Accepted papers will be presented as a poster in the poster sessions and a few will be selected to also give an oral presentation.

Authors may opt-in to have their paper possibly published in workshop proceedings at CEUR-WS. All papers will be posted on the workshop website. The proceedings containing the opt-in papers will be submitted for inclusion to CEUR-WS. Assuming a sufficient number of high-quality papers, the proceedings are likely to be accepted, but conforming to CEUR-WS policy it cannot guarantee beforehand that the proceedings will indeed be published. Although there were some recent efforts on text simplification, removing such understanding barriers between scientific texts and general public in an automatic manner is still an open challenge. SimpleText brings together researchers and practitioners working on the generation of simplified summaries of scientific texts. All perspectives on automatic science popularisation are welcome, including but not limited to: Natural Language Processing (NLP), Information Retrieval (IR), Linguistics, Scientific Journalism, etc.

We accept the following types of submissions:
– Regular papers of 10-12 standard pages length with an appropriate number of references.
– Short papers of 5-6 standard pages length with additional pages for references.
– Extended abstracts of 500-1000 words with bibliographic references. Bibliographic references are excluded from word count. Previously published papers can be accepted as extended abstracts (please, provide a reference to your previous work in this case).

During the Inn’EO Summer School, attendees (PhD students and young researchers) will develop new skills both in excellence (modern EO applications using machine and deep learning techniques) and soft skills that are useful for employability out of academics, while it can also useful in academic jobs. The program is divided into different sessions: lectures, working sessions, meetings with stakeholders, teachers and coaches from industry.

The Inn’EO Startech module aims at coaching PhD students and young researchers towards the spirit of innovation by putting them in a leadership position where they will have to act as a project manager to make one of their ideas a marketable prototype/product/project. Students will be put in the shoes of an entrepreneur and will develop skills that are useful when developing new projects, new research directions, new applications, or new companies.

Inn’EO Startech will be held from the 30th of May to the 3rd of June 2022 (25 hours). It will take place online with the InnEO e-learning platform. There is also the possibility to follow the training in physical in Toulouse France (Erasmus+).

Les Systèmes d’Informations sont constamment en train d’évoluer, notamment par l’intégration de nouvelles technologies telles que le comme le Machine Learning, l’IoT, les microservices, le Cloud Computing et le Fog/Edge Computing, mais également par des nouveaux usages et nouvelles pratiques. Ces systèmes deviennent ainsi ouverts sur le monde, n’étant plus limités aux seules frontières de l’organisation. Ils sont disponibles partout, ils accompagnent leurs
collaborateurs et clients où qu’ils soient et à tout moment, s’intègrent dans l’environnement physique, interagissent avec d’autres systèmes. On peut désormais parler de SI devenus pervasifs.

Les précédentes éditions de cet atelier ont permis de mettre en évidence l’omniprésence de la technologie dans les environnements et son effet sur les processus et les activités métiers. Les articles présentés ont souligné des nombreux défis comme le défi écologique, ou encore la gestion des services et des infrastructures, pour ne citer qu’eux.

On peut désormais s’interroger sur ” l’intelligence ” qu’on pourrait apporter à cette nouvelle génération de SI, les SI pervasifs. Pourrons-nous un jour parler d’un SI ” smart ” ou ” intelligent ” ?
On peut également s’interroger sur le rôle de ces systèmes face aux nombreuses situations de crise traversées par notre société. Les nouvelles technologies peuvent-elles contribuer à rendre ces systèmes plus résilients ? Peuvent-ils ainsi devenir un jour un levier pour la résilience des organisations de manière générale ? Toutes ces questions et bien d’autres restent ouvertes.

L’objectif de cet atelier est ainsi de mieux comprendre les défis et les opportunités soulevés par cette nouvelle génération de SI que nous dessinons aujourd’hui, et comment les nouvelles technologies et tendances dans l’informatique (et ailleurs) peuvent contribuer à cette évolution.

Cet atelier se veut un lieu d’échange, suscitant de discussions autour de cette nouvelle génération de SI et des tendances qui permettent aujourd’hui son apparition. Nous invitons à des contributions sur différents aspects allant de l’architecture à l’infrastructure, de la modélisation à l’expérimentation, de la théorie à la pratique sur différents thèmes (GreenIT, Machine Learning, IoT, Cloud et Fog/Edge Computing, etc.). A travers les discussions, nous souhaitons susciter une certaine synergie entre les différentes communautés appelées à être acteur de cette évolution.

Nous appelons à des contributions sur la forme d’articles entre 5 et 8 pages (format Hermès-Lavoisier) proposant des contributions (consolidées ou jeunes initiatives), des retours d’expérience, ou de cas d’études autour de la thématique.

DAS 2020 CALL FOR PAPERS:

DAS 2022 is the 15th international IAPR-sponsored workshop dedicated towards system-level approaches and related challenges in document analysis and recognition domain. Typically, the workshop covers invited speaker talks along with oral, poster, tutorial, demo sessions and working group discussions. Springer will publish the proceedings (for accepted full papers).

DAS 2022 will be held in the historical city of La Rochelle located on the French Atlantic coast. La Rochelle is famous for its old port, stunning seaside views, urban beaches, and for the second largest private aquarium in Europe.

DAS 2022 will accept contributions of different types including full papers (that will be presented orally or by poster), short papers (presented only by posters, prototypes, or demonstrations). All submissions (for both full and short papers) will pass through a rigorous review process to evaluate the submitted work against several criteria including originality, quality of work and presentation ideas, novelty, and relevance to document analysis systems.

SUBMISSION TYPES
DAS 2022 expects submissions in the Springer LNCS format based on the following types of papers:

Full papers
Full papers should describe complete works of original research. Authors are invited to submit original unpublished research papers, up to 15 pages length, that are not being considered in another forum. This restriction does not apply to unpublished technical reports or papers included in self-archive repositories (departmental, arXiv.org, etc.) that are not peer-reviewed.

Short papers
Short papers provide an opportunity to report on research in progress, to present demos and novel positions on document analysis systems. Authors may submit short papers (up to 4 pages in length). Short papers will also undergo review and will appear in an extra booklet, not in the official DAS2022 proceedings.

DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM

This year, the steering committee of ICPRAI 2022 proposes the first version of the Doctoral Consortium (DC) as a satelite event to the main conference offering the opportunité to PhD students to present their work and meet senior researchers in their feld of interest.

The goal of the ICPRAI 2022 Doctoral Consortium is to create an opportunity for Ph.D. students to test their research ideas, present their current progress and future plans, and receive constructive criticism and insights related to their future work and career perspectives. A mentor (a senior researcher who is active in the field) will be assigned to each student to provide individual feedback. In addition, students will have the opportunity to present an overview of their research plan during a special poster session.

Participation in the ICPRAI 2022 Doctoral Consortium will be limited to 25 students. Prospective participants are encouraged to submit their application. The Doctoral Consortium Committee will then review all applications received. Preference will be given to students who are at a stage in their studies most likely to benefit (i.e., they have identified a research direction and published some initial results, but the thesis is not yet set in stone).

Submission procedure
Students willing to participate should submit a participation package in a single pdf file. The submission package should be prepared using the following templates and should contain the following information:

– Student’s name
– University
– Title of your thesis
– Supervisor of the thesis
– Starting and expected finalization date of the PhD
– Short research plan (1-2 pages about the work)
– Short CV (1-2 pages).

The research plan should contain an overview of the PhD topic relative to the topics of the main conference, the steps made so far (including a list of publications), and the actions planned before finishing the PhD, especially novel research ideas to be pursued.

Scope

As the number of sensors increases due to the development of Internet of Things (body sensors, weather station, …) and the improvement of existing devices (satellite, chirurgical robot, …), the number of available time series data increases also and so is their temporal sampling in a variety of applications in medicine (e.g., EEG and ECG signals), environment, finance, weather forecasting, food security, or human activity recognition. There is now a need to deal with new issues such as missing values, irregular temporal sampling, time series outliers, early classification, heterogeneous time series, cold start and the lack (or few amount) of labeled data to train models. Moreover, new devices with higher temporal frequency and multi sensors impose to set a tradeoff between accuracy and scalability as the dimensionality and the length of the time-series produced by these devices increase. Finally, these multivariate time series require new methods to deal with the dimensionality complexity. The aim of this special session is to present recent work on time series analysis in different
application domains, that deals with the increase in time series data and/or in the temporal sampling.
