MaDICS est un Groupement de Recherche (GDR) du CNRS créé en 2015. Il propose un écosystème pour promouvoir et animer des activités de recherche interdisciplinaires en Sciences des Données. Il est un forum d’échanges et d’accompagnement pour les acteurs scientifiques et non-scientifiques (industriels, médiatiques, culturels,…) confrontés aux problèmes du Big Data et des Sciences des données.

Les activités de MaDICS sont structurées à travers des Actions et Ateliers. Les Actions rassemblent les acteurs d’une thématique précise pendant une durée limitée (entre deux et quatre ans). La création d’une Action est précédée par un ou plusieurs Ateliers qui permettent de consolider les thématiques et les objectifs de l’action à venir.

- Manifestations MaDICS : Le GDR MaDICS labellise des Manifestations comme des conférences, workshops ou écoles d’été. Toute demande de labellisation est évaluée par le Comité de Direction du GDR. Une labellisation rend possible un soutien financier pour les jeunes chercheuses et chercheurs. Une labellisation peut aussi être accompagnée d’une demande de soutien financier pour des missions d’intervenants ou de participants à la manifestation.

Les organisations et le monde vivent actuellement de grandes transformations largement liées aux technologies de l’information et à leurs impacts. Ces transformations touchent les systèmes d’information (SI) qui soutiennent les processus métier des organisations ainsi que les acteurs dans la réalisation de leurs activités/missions. La rapidité des changements des organisations et plus largement les défis sociétaux et environnementaux nécessitent de mettre en place des processus allant souvent au-delà de l’amélioration continue et d’envisager des transformations plus fondamentales pour lesquelles les dimensions d’innovation, de créativité mais aussi de responsabilité sont des facteurs déterminants. L’imprévisibilité de ces mêmes transformations (notamment les effets indirects pervers) requiert plus que jamais une vision systémique dans l’ingénierie et la gouvernance des SI.
Dans ce contexte, un thème majeur proposé pour l’édition 2023 d’INFORSID est centré sur “SI ET RESPONSABILITE SOCIETALE ET ENVIRONNEMENTALE”. Il s’agit dans sa contribution de garder un regard à la fois critique et constructif de l’apport des SI dans la gestion des multiples défis du XXIème siècle liés à la transformation numérique de la société, aux nouveaux modes de travail et de collaboration, au changement climatique, à la gestion des ressources, à la préservation de l’environnement, au respect de la vie privée, à l’éthique… tant du point de vue des solutions apportées que des problèmes potentiellement générés.
Aux niveaux technique et scientifique, les opportunités d’évolution et de transformation supposent une capacité à capter, stocker, organiser, rechercher, analyser, apprendre à partir de gros volumes informations, et nous amène à investiguer de nombreuses problèmes inédits : satisfaire et maîtriser les exigences de volume, vélocité, variété, véracité, valeur des données, respecter les lois relatives à la protection des données, et être pleinement conscients des (et responsables face aux) composants du nouveau monde VUCA (volatilité, incertitude, complexité et ambiguïté). Nous en sommes responsables en tant qu’ingénieurs, en tant que chercheurs, en tant qu’enseignants et en tant que citoyens. Nous avons, plus que jamais, besoin de l’intelligence humaine.
Le déploiement des SI dans cet environnement complexe contenant des données sensibles/massives/hétérogènes génère aussi des risques juridiques, sociaux, et financiers, rendant la sécurité, et notamment la cyber sécurité, centrale dans les préoccupations des directions des systèmes d’information (DSI), des chercheurs et des équipes pédagogiques en SI. Face à ce déploiement de solutions technologiques gourmandes en ressources énergétiques, les SI doivent aussi répondre aux défis environnementaux pour proposer une informatique durable et un numérique responsable.
Depuis 1982, le congrès annuel INFORSID (INFormatique des ORganisations et Systèmes d’Information et de Décision) constitue le lieu d’échange privilégié entre chercheurs et praticiens pour identifier et explorer les problématiques, les opportunités et les solutions que les SI apportent ou absorbent. C’est aussi l’occasion de partager et de diffuser les expériences de mise en œuvre des méthodes, modèles, outils et solutions liés aux nouvelles technologies. Les SI sont omniprésents au sens où aucun domaine d’activité n’y échappe. Il est donc important de se pencher sur des défis propres à certains secteurs (santé, finance, agriculture, environnement, culture, logistique, etc.), ouvrant ainsi des champs d’étude et d’expérimentation spécifiques.
En 2023, le congrès INFORSID se tiendra à La Rochelle du 30 mai au 2 juin. Nous sollicitons, comme chaque année, la présentation de travaux de recherche récents, de développements industriels et d’expériences significatives dans le domaine de l’ingénierie et des systèmes d’information, mais également des travaux plus exploratoires, ou simplement une idée sur laquelle débattre.
Les thématiques visées sont les suivantes, sans que cette liste ne soit exhaustive, et en privilégiant un lien avec la thématique SI ET RESPONSABILITE SOCIETALE ET ENVIRONNEMENTALE énoncée plus haut.
SI ET DONNÉES MASSIVES (BIG DATA) : conception et ingénierie des bases de données NoSQL, stockage et distribution des données (datastores, multistores, etc.), ingénierie des données liées (linked data), SI et Internet des objets, paradigmes de traitements massifs de l’information (map/reduce, in-memory, blockchains), qualité et traçabilité des données (data lineage).
SI ET SCIENCE DES DONNÉES : mécanismes de raisonnement, analytique, Business Intelligence ingénierie des systèmes décisionnels, entrepôts et lacs de données, bases de données multidimensionnelles et OLAP, fouille dans les données massives (data mining, big mining), SI et fouille (intention mining, process mining, web mining, text mining), analyse des sentiments, apprentissage (deep learning), aide à la décision, SI et visualisation, intelligence artificielle.
SI ET INTERACTION HUMAINE : production participative (crowd sourcing), réalité augmentée et SI, jeux sérieux pour les SI, SI et médiation, usages du SI, SI et accessibilité, SI et handicap, adaptation des SI.
SI ET SÉCURITÉ: sécurité organisationnelle, SI résilients, sécurité d’accès à l’information, sécurité à la conception (“privacy by design”/ “privacy by default”), données ouvertes, données personnelles.
SI et RÉSEAUX SOCIAUX : ingénierie sociale, discernement, réflexion vs réflexe, éthique, responsabilité, citoyenneté, analyse des sentiments.
INGÉNIERIE DES PROCESSUS : méthodes pour l’ingénierie de SI à base de services, ingénierie des exigences, architecture d’entreprise, architectures et outils pour les services, SI et services numériques, modélisation/cartographie/orchestration de processus, business process management, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
INGÉNIERIE DES DOCUMENTS ET DES CONNAISSANCES : modélisation et méta-modélisation des documents, recherche d’informations, médiation de sources d’information, informations multimédia et gestion de contenu, systèmes de recommandation, réseaux sociaux et SI, ontologies, knowledge management.
SI DÉDIÉS ET ENTREPRISES DU FUTUR : environnement, usine 4.0, habitat intelligent, ville intelligente, développement durable, santé, biologie, éducation, aéronautique, commerce, marketing, banque, logistique, PME, expériences de SI du futur, innovation digitale, SI et bien-être au travail
ENSEIGNEMENT ET RECHERCHE EN SI : modélisation, méta-modélisation, artéfact, évaluation de la recherche, méthodes d’évaluation, méthodologies de recherche en SI, SI pour les MOOC.
Ces contributions pourront aussi s’appuyer ou élaborer des fondamentaux en matière de méthodes et outils de conception (ingénierie dirigée par les modèles, paradigmes de modélisation, rétro-ingénierie/réingénierie/co-conception des SI) et de gouvernance (gestion des risques, conformité aux réglementations alignement des SI à la stratégie de l’entreprise, management de projet SI, agilité, SI mobiles et ubiquitaires)…

SOUMISSION
Trois types de soumission sont possibles :
Session Recherche : articles longs (12 à 16 pages) ou articles courts (4 à 6 pages). Tout en respectant les thèmes de la conférence, les articles peuvent également être “centrés solutions” présentant une problématique de recherche pour laquelle de nouvelles solutions ou des évolutions significatives sont décrites. Ils peuvent porter sur des “évaluations” en incluant une validation préliminaire de la solution proposée au moyen d’approches scientifiques telles que les études empiriques, les expériences, les études de cas, les simulations, etc. Ils peuvent enfin relater une expérience industrielle présentant des problèmes ou des défis rencontrés en pratique dans une organisation.
Session Internationale (2 pages) : articles publiés dans de très bonnes conférences ou revues internationales dans l’année 2022 et soumis pour présentation lors de la conférence. L’objectif est de faire partager avec la communauté nationale les travaux les plus récents même si ceux-ci ont déjà été publiés. Pour ce faire, une inscription au tarif préférentiel de 250€ sera accordée au conférencier présentant l’article. Il est demandé aux auteurs une synthèse de 2 pages en français, avec un titre en français selon un modèle spécifique. Le premier paragraphe doit explicitement faire référence à la conférence ou à la revue internationale dans laquelle l’article a été publié avec la référence bibliographique complète de la publication.
Session Démos (2-4 pages) : Présentation d’outils, prototypes, maquettes, de travaux ou projets en cours, d’expérimentations ou jeux de données de référence, etc.
Les articles de la session de recherche et internationale devront se conformer aux modèles proposés et être soumis via easychair (voir site de la conférence)
La langue officielle du congrès est le français. Toutefois le congrès est ouvert aux contributions de langue anglaise.
EVALUATION ET PUBLICATION
Tous les articles seront évalués par trois lecteurs du Comité de programme (voir site de la conférence). Les articles sélectionnés seront publiés dans les actes du congrès et feront l’objet d’une présentation. Un article soumis à INFORSID 2023 ne doit pas être dans un processus d’évaluation dans une autre conférence ou journal. Toute double soumission sera refusée.
Après la conférence, les auteurs des meilleurs articles seront invités à soumettre une version étendue dans ISTE Editions vers la Revue Ouverte d’Ingénierie des Systèmes d’Information (https://www.openscience.fr/Revue-ouverte-d-ingenierie-des-systemes-d-information), suivant le processus de sélection propre à la revue.

“Terminology & Digital Humanities”
Digital Humanities (DH) is a newly emerging interdisciplinary area at the intersection of Computer Science and the Humanities (including but not limited to art, geography, history, language, literature, music). Its main aim is to develop and implement digital tools for Humanities research.
The fundamental question in DH is how datasets from the Humanities can be represented digitally so that both humans and machines can process and exchange them on the Web. Ontology and Terminology have a central role to play in this end.
This two-day summer school is dedicated to constructing terminologies and ontologies in Digital Humanities using Protégé, the most commonly used ontology editor.
This two-day course will be illustrated with practical works on the example of ancient Greek vases

THEME DE L’ECOLE : Gestion et traitement intelligent des écosystèmes de graphes de connaissances
Cette école s’intéresse à la gestion et au traitement intelligent des écosystèmes de graphes de connaissances disponibles aujourd’hui dans tous les domaines. Cette thématique englobe les approches d’intelligence artificielle symbolique, numérique ou hybride pour la construction, la publication, l’interrogation et l’exploitation de bases de graphes de connaissances annotés et interconnectés. Corollairement, elle touche aux problématiques de la qualité des données et graphes de connaissances produits, de la provenance des graphes de connaissances et de l’explication des résultats de leurs traitements.
OBJECTIFS DE L’ECOLE
Les deux jours de formation ont pour but principal d’offrir aux participants des tutoriaux d’initiation dans le domaine de recherche couvrant les thèmes de l’école mais également des tutoriaux plus spécifiques présentant les récentes avancées proposant des solutions et des techniques nouvelles pour les différentes problématiques ayant émergées dans ce domaine. Certains exposés seront associés à des séances plus pratiques afin de permettre aux participants de manipuler quelques outils.
La participation à la conférence permettra aux participants de prendre part à un des événements majeurs de la communauté francophone de l’extraction et la gestion de connaissances. Elle leur permettra d’assister à des présentations de nouvelles avancées et approches développées dans la communauté, ceci pouvant ainsi inspirer leur parcours scientifique futur.
Enfin, cette école souhaite offrir aux jeunes chercheurs (doctorants, post-doctorants et ingénieurs) et aux chercheurs confirmés du domaine la possibilité de se rencontrer et d’échanger des idées, ce qui devrait également permettre aux jeunes chercheurs d’enrichir leur réseau.

Les laboratoires franciliens organisent du 5 au 9 juin 2023 sur le
campus Sorbonne Université (Site des Cordeliers) la seconde organisation conjointe de
la conférence sur le Traitement Automatique des Langues Naturelles (TALN) et de
la Conférence en Recherche d’Information et Applications (CORIA)
ainsi que et la Rencontre des Étudiants Chercheurs en Informatique pour
le Traitement Automatique des Langues (RÉCITAL) et
Rencontre des Jeunes Chercheurs en Recherche d’Information (RJCRI).
TALN souhaite continuer la politique de ces dernières années qui consiste,
en plus de la sélection de publications scientifiques francophones
originales, à offrir la possibilité de soumettre des versions traduites
d’articles scientifiques publiés très récemment dans des conférences
majeures anglophones ou en cours de soumissions dans une conférence
anglophone.

Types de soumissions et de communications
La conférence propose plusieurs types de soumissions :
1. Travaux de recherche originaux non publiés dans d’autres
conférences. Ce type de soumission peut donner lieu à des articles
longs ou courts dans la version finale ;
2. Prises de position présentant un point de vue sur l’état des
recherches en TAL. Ce type de soumission peut donner lieu à des
articles longs ou courts dans la version finale ;
3. Travaux déjà publiés dans les conférences majeures internationales
récemment ou en cours de soumission. Il s’agit de traductions de ces
soumissions en français. Ce type de soumission ne peut donner lieu
qu’à des versions courtes dans les actes.
Le format de soumission est similaire aux années précédentes et
précisé dans un message ultérieur avec la feuille de style et le site
web.
Si tous les auteurs sont francophones, les articles doivent être
écrits en français. Si l’un des auteurs n’est pas francophone, les
articles peuvent être rédigés en anglais.
Tous les articles acceptés seront publiés dans les actes de la
conférence. Notez par ailleurs que les actes de la conférence sont
indexés dans l’ACL Anthology.

Cette école a pour but de rassembler les chercheur·e·s, ingénieur·e·s et doctorant·e·s autour des nouvelles technologies du traitement de données massives en Astrophysique.
Les cours se concentreront sur des présentations et Travaux Pratiques en traitement des données, Machine learning et Deep Learning.

Appel à propositions de projet
Nous invitons les participants “seniors” à soumettre des propositions de hack dans le domaine de l’astrophysique et de l’apprentissage automatique. Nous accueillons tous les types de projets, à condition qu’ils impliquent plusieurs participants pendant toute la semaine sur diverses tâches et conduisent à un résultat publiable.
Les candidats retenus travailleront à l’avance avec les organisateurs locaux pour préparer le matériel de hack (mise en page du projet, données ouvertes, code existant, notebook de départ, etc.).
Une connaissance préalable de l’apprentissage automatique est préférable mais non obligatoire, car une équipe locale sera disponible pour travailler avec les participants.

Thematic School AstroInformatics 2023
The third edition of the AstroInformatics thematic school will take place from June 26th to 30th, followed by the AstroInfo AISSAI Hackathon from July 3rd to 7th.

The school
The goal of this school is to bring together researchers, engineers and students around new technologies for processing massive data in astrophysics.
The courses will focus on presentations and practical work in data processing, machine learning, and deep learning.

The hackathon
In the continuity of the school, we are organizing the Astro AISSAI Hackathon. The hackathon is based on a scientific project and will take place throughout the week. This second week is intended for people with some experience, and the number of participants will be limited to 20.

Call for project proposals
We invite senior participants to submit hack proposals in the field of astrophysics and machine learning. We welcome all types of projects, as long as they involve and engage several participants for the entire week on various tasks and lead to a publishable result.
The successful candidates will work with local organizers in advance to prepare hack material (project layout, open data, existing code, starting notebook, etc.).
Prior knowledge of machine learning is preferable but not mandatory, as a local team will be available to work with the participants.
Please submit your proposals on the registration form before May 1st, 23:59 AOE (Anywhere on Earth).

CAp is an interdisciplinary gathering of researchers at the intersection of machine learning, applied mathematics, and related areas. This year it takes place at Strasbourg from July 3 to July 5 and is part of the platform PFIA (3-7 July) gathering researchers in Artificial Intelligence.

Submitted papers can be either in English or in French and we encourage two types of submissions:
- Full research papers on the theme of machine learning theory and its applications should not exceed 10 pages in CAp double-column format (including references and figures). A suitable LaTeX template for CAp is available here.
- Short papers can be up to 6 pages using the same format as the full papers. They present original ideas and provide an opportunity to describe significant work in progress.
We also encourage the submission of recent (2022 or 2023) papers accepted to high level conferences and journals in machine learning. These papers will also be reviewed (lightly) by the program committee. If accepted, they will be presented at the conference but will not appear in any (online) proceedings. Note that, in this particular case, the paper can be submitted in the original conference format (length and style) and the reviews given by the conference/ML journal where it was accepted should be included as the first pages of the submission in addition to a link to the corresponding conference/ML journal web page. The submission of the reviews and the original paper should be merged and submitted into a single PDF file on the easychair website.

À l’ère du financement par projet, de la mise en concurrence des chercheurs et chercheuses, des politiques productivistes dans le monde de la recherche, des partenariats public-privé, du transfert technologique, le tout dans un contexte de crise économique, écologique et sociale, il est urgent de mener des réflexions sur le rôle éthique des travailleurs et travailleuses de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche.
L’association de doctorant-e-s Nicomaque organise le 4 juillet 2023 de 15h à 18h un atelier portant sur ces thématiques au centre Inria de l’Université de Rennes.
Au travers de cet atelier, nous soulèverons les problématiques suivantes :
- Quelles responsabilités portent l’Enseignement Supérieur et la Recherche (ESR) dans la réflexion éthique ?
- Quelles sont les occasions qui nous poussent à la réflexion éthique dans notre travail au quotidien ?
- Quelles sont nos capacités d’actions sur notre travail de recherche et d’enseignement ?

Cet atelier s’intéresse à la question de la science ouverte sous l’angle de l’exploitation des outils du web sémantique. En particulier, l’apport des technologies sémantiques à un meilleur respect des critères FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
Des efforts spécifiques sont nécessaires pour rendre pleinement réutilisables et compréhensibles les divers types de données produites par les chercheurs, les gestionnaires de données et les fournisseurs de services. Les principes FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) ont été élaborés pour répondre à ces questions, en décrivant un ensemble d’exigences pour la réutilisation et l’interopérabilité des données. Ces principes font l’objet d’une attention croissante dans toute une série de domaines et d’applications.
Un aspect essentiel pour rendre les données FAIR est la capacité des machines à trouver, accéder, inter-opérer et réutiliser automatiquement les données sans intervention humaine ou avec une intervention humaine minimale. Pour cela, la capacité de décrire correctement et sémantiquement les données est essentielle.
Cette journée a pour but de faire le point sur ces questions dans le paysage français en favorisant l’échange entre les multiples communautés qui s’intéressent à la gestion de la science ouverte et des principes FAIR.

Inference is the
research area at the intersection of Machine
Learning and Formal
Language Theory. Since
1993, the International Conference on Grammatical Inference (ICGI)
has been the meeting place for presenting, discovering, and
discussing the latest research results on the foundations
of learning languages,
from theoretical and algorithmic perspectives to their applications
(natural language or document processing, bioinformatics, model
checking and software verification, program synthesis, robotic
planning and control, intrusion detection…).
This
16th edition of ICGI will be held in-person in Rabat,
the modern capital with deep-rooted history of Morocco located on the
Atlantic Coast. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ICGI
conference, the program will include a distinguished lecture by Dana
Angluin.
The program will also include two
invited talks,
a half-day
tutorial at
the beginning of the conference on formal
languages and neural models for learning on sequences

Merrill,

Types
of contributions
We
welcome three types of
papers:
-
Formal
or technical papers describe original contributions
(theoretical, methodological, or conceptual) in the field of
grammatical inference. A technical paper should clearly describe the
situation or problem tackled, the relevant state of the art, the
position or solution suggested, and the benefits of the
contribution. -
Position
papers can describe completely new research positions, approaches,
or open problems. Current limits can be discussed. In all cases,
rigor in the presentation will be required. Such papers must
describe precisely the situation, problem, or challenge addressed,
and demonstrate how current methods, tools, and ways of reasoning,
may be inadequate. -
Tool
papers describing a new tool for grammatical inference. The tool
must be publicly available and the paper has to contain several
use-case studies describing the use of the tool. In addition, the
paper should clearly describe the implemented algorithms, input
parameters and syntax, and the produced output.
Guidelines
for authors
Accepted
papers will be published within the Proceedings
of Machine Learning Research series. The total length of the
paper should not exceed 12 pages on A4-size paper (references and
appendix may exceed this limit but Authors are warned that Reviewers
may not read after page 12). The prospective authors are strongly
recommended to use the JMLR
style file for LaTeX since it will be the required format for the
final published version.

peer review process is double-blind: we expect submitted papers to be

It is a pleasure to invite you to Educational Data Mining (EDM 2023). Educational Data Mining is a leading international forum for high-quality research that mines datasets to answer educational research questions, including exploring how people learn and how they teach. The overarching goal of the Educational Data Mining research community is to support learners and teachers more effectively, by developing data-driven understandings of the learning and teaching processes in a wide variety of contexts and for diverse learners. The conference will take place in the Indian Institute of Science Campus, Bengaluru, India, during July 11-14, 2023.

The Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD) is one of the longest established and leading international conferences in the areas of data mining and knowledge discovery. It provides an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results, and practical development experiences from all KDD related areas, including data mining, data warehousing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, databases, statistics, knowledge engineering, visualization, decision-making systems, and the emerging applications.
The 27th edition of PAKDD will be held in Osaka, Japan, from May 25 to May 28, 2023.
The venue will be a hybrid of onsite and online.

PAKDD2023 welcomes high-quality, original, and previously unpublished submissions in the theories, technologies, and applications on all aspects of knowledge discovery and data mining. Topics of relevance for the conference include, but not limited to the following.

[Paper Submission]
Paper submission must be in English. All papers will be double-blind reviewed by the Program Committee based on technical quality, relevance to data mining, originality, significance, and clarity. All paper submissions will be handled electronically. Papers that do not comply with the Submission Policy will be rejected without review.
Each submitted paper must include an abstract up to 200 words and be no longer than 12 single-spaced pages with 10pt font size (including references, appendices, etc.). Authors must use Springer LNCS/LNAI manuscript submission guidelines for their submissions. All papers must be submitted electronically through the CMT paper submission system in PDF format only. Supplementary material may be submitted as a separate PDF file, but reviewers are not obligated to consider this, and your manuscript should, therefore, stand on its own merits without any supplementary material. Supplementary material will not be published in the proceedings.
We require that any submission to PAKDD must not be already published or under review at another archival conference or journal. Papers on arXiv do not violate this rule as long as the submitted paper does not cite them. Submitting a paper to the conference means that if the paper was accepted, at least one author will complete the regular registration and attend the conference to present the paper. For no-show authors, their papers will not be included in the proceedings.
The conference will confer several awards, including Best Paper Award, Best Student Paper Award, and Best Application Paper Award from the submissions.
Springer will publish the proceedings of the conference as a volume of the LNAI series.
[Double-Blind Review]
Paper submission must adhere to the double-blind review policy. Submissions must remove all details identifying the author(s) from the original manuscript (including the supplementary files, if any), and the author(s) should refer to their prior work in the third person and include all relevant citations.
Because of the double-blind review process, non-anonymous papers that have been issued as technical reports or similar cannot be considered for PAKDD2023. An exception to this rule applies to manuscripts that were published in arXiv not later than October 24, 2022, i.e., at least a month before PAKDD’s submission deadline.
The author list and order cannot be changed after the paper is submitted.

The Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD) is one of the longest established and leading international conferences in the areas of data mining and knowledge discovery. The 26th edition of PAKDD will be held in Osaka, Japan, from May 25 to May 28, 2023. The PAKDD 2023 organizing committee invites workshop proposals on foundational and emerging topics in areas related to data mining. The PAKDD workshops provide an informal and vibrant opportunity for researchers and industry practitioners to share their research positions, original research results and practical development experiences on specific challenges and emerging issues. Each workshop should be focused on a cohesive theme so that participants can benefit from interaction with each other.
## Topics of Interest
Workshop topics typically match those identified in the PAKDD 2023 call for papers, but proposals concerned with other areas of data mining and knowledge discovery are welcome. Interdisciplinary workshops that explore the convergence of data mining and knowledge discovery with various disciplines are also encouraged.
## Format
Workshops are scheduled to be held at the beginning of the conference, May 25, 2023. Workshops will be held entirely online. Workshop papers will not be included in the conference proceedings but available on the PAKDD 2023 webpage.
## Duties
The organizers of accepted workshops are expected to disseminate the call for papers, gather submissions, form the program committees, conduct the reviewing process, and decide upon the final workshop program.
## Submission
The workshop proposal should contain the following information:
– Title of the workshop – Objectives, scope, and contribution to the main conference
– Names, affiliations and contacts of the organizers
– Tentative list of the program committee members
– Length of the workshop (full day or half day)
– Expected number of submissions and attendees
Workshop proposals should be submitted by December 1st, 2022 at 11:59PM (PST). Please prepare a PDF (maximum three pages) that contains the aforementioned contents and send it to pakdd2023workshop@gmail.com.

FOIS 2023 Call for papers
Definition and scope
The FOIS conference is a meeting point for all researchers with an interest in formal ontology. Formal ontology is the systematic study of the types of entities and relations making up the domains of interest represented in modern information systems. The conference encourages submission of high quality, not previously published results on both theoretical issues and practical advancements. FOIS 2023 will have distinct tracks for foundational issues, ontology applications and methods, and domain ontologies.
FOIS aims to be a nexus of interdisciplinary research and communication for researchers from many domains engaging with formal ontology. Common application areas include conceptual modeling, database design, knowledge engineering and management, software engineering, organizational modeling, artificial intelligence, robotics, computational linguistics, the life sciences, bioinformatics and scientific research in general, geographic information science, information retrieval, library and information science, as well as the Semantic Web.
FOIS is the flagship conference of the International Association for Ontology and its Applications (IAOA: http://iaoa.org/), which is a non-profit organization promoting interdisciplinary research and international collaboration in formal ontology.

The submission deadline for workshops will be after the notifications to allow authors to submit a revised version of rejected papers to any of the conference workshops if the paper topics are appropriate for this workshop.
Location
FOIS 2023 will consist of a physical meeting and a virtual meeting:
• An in-person only meeting in Sherbrooke, Quebec from July 17 to 21, 2023 that will be very much like a traditional conference with keynotes, regular talks, workshops and tutorials and plenty of social and networking opportunities. This part will not have a remote participation option, but we plan on recording selected talks (e.g. keynotes).
• This will be followed by an online part to be held from September 18 to 20, 2023 that offers an opportunity for presentation and discussion of additional papers that were not presented at the physical meeting in Sherbrooke.
Submissions
FOIS 2023 seeks three types of full-length (14 pages) high-quality papers on a wide range of topics:
• Foundational papers address content-related ontological issues, their formal representation, and their relevance to some aspect of information systems.
• Application and Methods papers address novel systems, methods, and tools related to building, evaluating, or using ontologies, emphasizing the impact of ontology contents.
• Domain ontology papers describe a novel ontology for a specific realm of interest, clarifying ontological choices against requirements and foundational theory, and showing ontology use.
