MaDICS est un Groupement de Recherche (GDR) du CNRS créé en 2015. Il propose un écosystème pour promouvoir et animer des activités de recherche interdisciplinaires en Sciences des Données. Il est un forum d’échanges et d’accompagnement pour les acteurs scientifiques et non-scientifiques (industriels, médiatiques, culturels,…) confrontés aux problèmes du Big Data et des Sciences des données.

Les activités de MaDICS sont structurées à travers des Actions et Ateliers. Les Actions rassemblent les acteurs d’une thématique précise pendant une durée limitée (entre deux et quatre ans). La création d’une Action est précédée par un ou plusieurs Ateliers qui permettent de consolider les thématiques et les objectifs de l’action à venir.
Le site de MaDICS propose plusieurs outils de support et de communication ouverts à la communauté concernée par les Sciences des Données:
- Manifestations MaDICS : Le GDR MaDICS labellise des Manifestations comme des conférences, workshops ou écoles d’été. Toute demande de labellisation est évaluée par le Comité de Direction du GDR. Une labellisation rend possible un soutien financier pour les jeunes chercheuses et chercheurs. Une labellisation peut aussi être accompagnée d’une demande de soutien financier pour des missions d’intervenants ou de participants à la manifestation.

Cet atelier a pour objectif de réunir les chercheurs intéressés par les mécanismes d’attentions et leur apport dans le domaine de l’apprentissage automatique. Notre ambition est de permettre aux participants d’aborder tous les thèmes allant de la modélisation de l’attention aux applications en passant par les architectures basées sur de tels mécanismes. Les problématiques abordées lors de cet atelier peuvent concerner les processus de modélisation, extraction d’information, etc., ou les applications associées. L’atelier concerne aussi bien les chercheurs du monde académique que ceux du secteur industriel, et autant les notions conceptuelles que les applications. L’atelier est ouvert en termes de propositions. Nous souhaitons stimuler un échange et des discussions aussi bien du point de vue théorique qu’expérimental :

The 21st International Symposium on Intelligent Data Analysis will take place April 12-14, 2023 in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
Authors are invited to submit original contributions on the topic of intelligent data analysis. IDA’s mission is to promote ideas over performance. Thus, while each contribution should contain some theoretical or empirical evaluation, exhaustive evaluation is not required as long as a convincing and solid motivation is given.
Submissions will undergo a single-blind review process (author identities are known to reviewers). The conventional reviewing process, which favors incremental advances on established work, can discourage the kinds of papers that IDA 2023 aims to publish. The reviewing process will address this issue explicitly: referees will evaluate papers on the basis of novelty, technical quality, potential impact, and clarity. Furthermore, each submission will be reviewed by one of the senior program committee members. Any paper for which an SPC makes a convincing argument about how it addresses the symposium’s goals will be accepted independent of the overall review score.
All accepted paper contributions will be published in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series by Springer-Verlag. Proceedings from previous IDA symposia have appeared in the same series over the last two decades.
It is required that at least one author of each accepted paper registers for the conference and presents and discusses the contribution at the conference.

Contributions, written in English, must be formatted according to the guidelines of the Lecture Notes of Computer Science (LNCS) series by Springer-Verlag, which are available together with templates here: https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines. We strongly recommend using the LNCS template for LaTeX. The page limit for any contribution, including figures, title pages, references, and appendices, is 10-12 pages in LNCS format. Submission of the camera-ready version of the paper has to include the authors’ consent to publish on the above Springer LNCS website.
Authors may not submit any paper which is under review elsewhere or which has been accepted for publication in a journal or another conference; neither will they submit their papers elsewhere during the review period of IDA 2023.

Un nombre croissant de chercheurs s’intéresse à la problématique de la reproductibilité, dont la définition même peut grandement varier d’une discpline à une autre (observationnelle, expérimentale, statistique, computationnelle, …). Or, nous avons rarement l’occasion de poser un regard inter-disciplinaire sur nos approches et définitions respectives. Ces journées sont donc un lieu d’échanges et d’information pour dresser un premier état des lieux de la reproductibilité en France. Le but est de favoriser les interventions courtes suivies de discussion permettant à tout un chacun de mieux comprendre les problématiques des autres. Nous essayons donc de rassembler des scientifiques de toutes disciplines.
L’autre but des ces journées est de réfléchir à une organisation nationale nous permettant d’échanger des informations sur les formations, les ateliers, les conférences et de pouvoir péréniser l’organisation de ces journées. Dans de nombreux pays, il existe des réseaux académiques nationaux dédiés à la question de la reproductibilité, comme par exemple au Royaume Uni (www.ukrn.org), en Finlande (www.finnish-rn.org), en Italie (www.itrn.org), en Allemagne (reproducibilitynetwork.de), en Suisse (www.swissrn.org), etc. Un des enjeux de ce workshop est donc de réfléchir à la définition et à la gouvernance d’un tel réseau, à son positionnement vis à vis d’instances comme le COSO (par exemple).

L’objectif de la journée SimPa est double :
- documenter les cas pratiques en santé dans lesquels les méthodes de calcul de similarité entre patients sont utiles;
- documenter les solutions existantes, par exemple, mais sans y être limité, pour les systèmes fondées sur des méthodes d’apprentissage automatique.
En bref, nous espérons que cette journée permettra une rencontre des communautés d’informatique médicale, santé publique et traitement
automatique de la langue et d’échanger sur la recherche de contenus textuels « similaires » en TAL.
Les communications sollicitées concernent les thématiques suivantes, sans y être limitées pour autant :
- Définition et identification des phénomènes de similarité textuelle en santé, explorant un continuum allant de l’identité des chaînes de caractères à la similarité sémantique et thématique entre documents ;
- Retours d’expérience sur l’utilisation de systèmes de TAL pour la détection de similarité en santé ;
- Identification de « cas similaires » : cohortes de patients, inclusion dans des essais cliniques, dossiers patients dupliqués,…
- Représentation de patients, modèles “deep patient”
- Similarité multimodale incluant le texte création de jumeaux numériques à partir de compte-rendus textuels, génération de données patient synthétiques (notamment des textes).
Les travaux portant sur d’autres langues que le français sont les bienvenus.
Les communications pourront sans restriction concerner des travaux déjà publiés, des résultats préliminaires non publiés, ou être des points de vue sur le domaine. Les propositions de communications orales sont attendues avant le 20 janvier 2023 sous la forme d’un résumé de 2 pages maximum (hors référence). La terminologie est un sujet particulièrement important pour la traduction et la rédaction techniques. Infox sur Seine
Les infox (fake news en anglais) sont dangereuses pour plusieurs raisons : en propageant de fausses nouvelles, elles contribuent à la désinformation et à la confusion des esprits. Elles attisent une fragmentation de la société et suscitent le ressentiment en répandant des stéréotypes ou des préjugés. Elles peuvent avoir un impact sur les décisions politiques et sociales en influençant l’opinion publique. Elles peuvent causer des problèmes de santé publique en diffusant des informations erronées sur des vaccins, des remèdes miracles ou des supposés effets indésirables de traitement connus.
La vérification des faits (fact checking en anglais) est une pratique cruciale pour lutter contre la propagation des infox et de la désinformation. Elle procède par confrontation des sources. Elle est importante pour assurer la qualité et la crédibilité de l’information qui circule dans la société, et pour protéger la démocratie et l’intégrité de l’information.
L’objectif d’Infox sur Seine est d’identifier, de réunir et de reconnaître la communauté française travaillant sur ces deux sujets : journalistes, informaticiens et informaticiennes, chercheuses et chercheurs en sciences sociales, ONG et autres acteurs de ce domaine. Il s’agira aussi de faire un premier état des lieux des travaux en cours.

Fake news are dangerous for several reasons: they contribute to misinformation and confusion of minds. They stir up a fragmentation of society and arouse resentment by spreading stereotypes or prejudices. They can have an impact on political and social decisions by influencing public opinion. They can cause public health problems by spreading misinformation about known vaccines, miracle cures or alleged adverse treatment effects.
Fact checking is a crucial practice in fighting fake news and misinformation. It proceeds by comparing sources. It is important to ensure the quality and credibility of information circulating in society, and to protect democracy and the integrity of information.
The objective of Infox sur Seine is to identify, bring together and recognize the French community working on these two subjects: journalists, computer scientists, researchers in social sciences, NGOs and other actors in this field. It will also be an opportunity to make a first assessment of this community.

Après les dix dernières éditions fructueuses des journées GreenDays, nous organisons les GreenDays 2023 @ Lyon les 27 et 28 Mars 2023 sur le thème “Efficacité énergétique, impacts environnementaux du numérique, sobriété et frugalité numérique : une vision décloisonnée !”.
En 2023, la problématique d’un numérique plus éco-responsable recouvre différentes facettes et de nombreux scientifiques adressent ces sujets dans leurs communautés respectives. Il est temps de se rencontrer et de mettre en commun nos forces de recherche pour amplifier les impacts des travaux et réduire les impacts énergétiques et environnementaux du numérique.

Le GDR MaDICS est heureux d’annoncer la tenue de sa première Semaine d’Études Entreprises en Data Sciences du GDR CNRS MaDICS (SEEDS@MaDICS). Cette rencontre vise à créer des échanges entre les milieux industriels et le monde académique par le biais d’une semaine de travail sur des problèmes posés par des industriels et nécessitant des approches informatiques et/ou mathématiques innovantes. Ces semaines s’inspirent du modèle des SEME (Semaine d’Etude Mathématiques – Entreprise) de l’AMIES.
SEEDS@MaDICS aura lieu à l’Université de Technologie de Troyes du 27 mars au 31 mars 2023.
Un problème industriel est présenté le lundi matin à un groupe de 3 à 5 doctorantes et doctorants. Chaque groupe travaille sur le sujet jusqu’au jeudi soir et une restitution orale est effectuée le vendredi de la même semaine. Il est demandé aux jeunes chercheuses et jeunes chercheurs d’explorer des stratégies de réponse inédites pour l’entreprise.

La conférence ORASIS’2023 qui se concentre sur les problématiques en vision par ordinateur, en intelligence artificielle, en robotique, et dans les domaines connexes, se déroulera du 22 au 26 mai 2023 à Carqueiranne (Var, PACA). Elle sera organisée par notre équipe SIIM, LIS, UMR 7020, au centre vacanciel Miléade. Ce colloque vise à réunir de jeunes chercheurs francophones (doctorants et jeunes docteurs) issus de la communauté de la vision par ordinateur ou de domaines connexes, avec l’ambition de favoriser, dans une ambiance conviviale, les échanges entre les participants, notamment entre les jeunes chercheurs et chercheurs expérimentés dans le domaine.

Information systems have evolved into complex data platforms supporting end-to-end data-intensive needs, such as storage, computation, and analysis of data with heterogeneous structures. However, a smart and comprehensive support for data scientists and architects to govern the data through the whole life-cycle is still necessary.
Supporting data management and governance requires the collection of metadata capturing the distinguishing features of the data; this enables advanced functionalities spanning from data research and profiling to provenance control, orchestration of data pipelines, incremental data integration, efficient querying, automated analytics, and homogeneous data access. The challenges begin with metadata management in terms of the modeling effort, storage, complexity of retrieval activities, and effective exploitation. While coping with big-data issues, the enabled functionalities must: (i) handle the heterogeneity of storage and computation engines (including DBMSs supporting multiple data models and cloud storage systems with limited control and predictability), (ii) meet suitability requirements for less-skilled users, and (iii) limit the costs of pay-as-you-go resources.
This workshop calls for innovative solutions — from researchers and practitioners — that address the aforementioned challenges. We welcome papers that contribute to the advancement of data platforms in engineering, optimizing, and simplifying the different aspects of data and metadata management and fruition.
The scope of the workshop includes, but is not limited to, the following topics.

Submissions should present original results and substantial new work not currently under review or published elsewhere. DataPlat 2023 will follow a single-blind review process to evaluate submissions on the basis of originality, relevance, quality, and technical contribution. The following submissions are accepted:

* Vision papers (up to 5 pages)
* Application papers (up to 5 pages)

This workshop is organized in the framework of the GDRs “Défis théoriques pour le Climat” and LEFE/MANU program aims to review and discuss advances and challenges in AI/learning-based frameworks for Ocean-Atmosphere-Climate Science. Broadly speaking, the availability of large amounts of simulation and observation data and the emergence of artificial intelligence technologies (big data architectures, GPUs, prolific learning) open up new opportunities to explore open questions in ocean, atmospheric and climate sciences through a data-centric paradigm, rather than a “classical” physical paradigm, one of the central scientific challenges being precisely the ability to unify these two paradigms. The workshop will gather experts in applied math, AI and geoscience to explore, review, discuss and advance these challenges.
The program will combine oral sessions and poster sessions in the afternoon and working groups sessions in the morning. Participants have the opportunity to present their research work as well as to propose themes of interest for working group sessions. We envision workings groups with emphasis on specific processes and/or earth system components as well as working groups with method-oriented interests.

The 21st International Symposium on Intelligent Data Analysis (IDA) will take place April 12-14, 2023 in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
Advancing Intelligent Data Analysis requires novel, potentially game-changing ideas. IDA’s mission is to promote new ideas over performance: in the early stages of a new idea, a solid motivation can be as relevant as exhaustive empirical evaluation. IDA symposia have an open atmosphere that encourages discussion about ideas, and are intentionally small-scale and single-track.

IDA is an international symposium dedicated to novel ideas for the intelligent analysis of data.
IDA wishes to encourage PhD students to participate in the symposium. For this reason, IDA 2023 offers a lower registration fee for PhD students and will include a mentorship program. PhD Students participating in this PhD program will be able to present their ongoing PhD project to the IDA audience; they will be paired with experienced researchers and meetings will be arranged during the symposium to allow for discussion between the students and mentors.
Participation in this forum requires submitting an application by 17 February 2023, which will be evaluated by the chair of the PhD forum.

An increasing trend towards the implementation of digital technologies within the health care systems has been witnessed during the last 20 years. In its global strategy on digital health for the years 2020–2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) devoted a specific interest to the role played by digital devices in allowing a larger and more equitable access to health services to all categories of populations, without any distinction regarding their economic, geopolitical, social or demographic specificities.
The term e-health encompasses in its broader sense a large array of health care domains supported or enabled by technology. Building on Marent & Henwood (2021), we can consider a typology including : (1) telemedicine: synchronous or asynchronous care at a distance, possibly enabled by sociotechnical platforms; (2) health information: storage, processing, search and exchange, through information and data management systems ; (3) mHealth: use of mobile and connected devices for health-related reasons; and (4) algorithmic health: incorporating advances in data science and artificial intelligence (AI) in health care for experimental, predictive, curative, or diagnostic purposes.
Despite the benefits and considerable advancements made possible by implementing digital devices in health and health care, crucial ethical questions have been raised. Bioethics and deontological perspectives cross paths with all the issues related to Information Technology uses and their implications on people’s life (privacy, digital divide, reluctance towards AI). Two value systems confront each other and concurrently foster a wide range of issues embracing different perspectives (philosophical, moral, normative, technical, managerial or legal).
The aim of this research day is to curate and compare the views of social, human and management sciences and engineering sciences in order to shed light on these issues.

L’action DOING (https://www.madics.fr/ateliers/doing/) organise deux journées de travail en 2023 pour rassembler une communauté scientifique multidisciplinaire et promouvoir l’échange et le débat scientifique sur les défis concernant le traitement du langage naturel, l’intelligence artificielle et les bases de données avec des perspectives diverses et complémentaires sur les approches et solutions existantes.
L’action DOING invite les chercheurs à participer à ces journées de travail en 2023 et à proposer des présentations longues et courtes sur des travaux en cours et consolidés traitant de problèmes au carrefour du traitement du langage naturel, de l’intelligence artificielle et des bases de données. DeepImaging 2023 is organized by the LabEx Primes, Creatis, LabHC laboratories, the University of Sherbrooke and the ETS of Montreal. This school is intended for medical imaging beginners and experts (students, post-docs, research professionals, and professors) who are eager to discover the fundamentals of deep learning and how it translates to medical imaging. We will walk you through the basics of machine learning all the way to the latest deep learning breakthroughs applied to medical imaging. As shown in the planning, the school has both oral presentations (16 hours) and 4 hands-on sessions (4 hours each). During the hands-on sessions, the participants will be guided through the dos and don’ts of machine learning programs for medical imaging. Please see the program for more details.
Should you be a machine learning / deep learning expert to attend the school? No! That is the point of this school!
Should you be a programming expert to attend the hands-on session? No! Only basic skills in Python programming are required.
We anticipate a maximum of approxiatively 70 participants. Due to space limitation, a selection process were applied to attendees.
