Contexte :
The Laboratoire Univers et Théories (LUTH) is a joint research unit (UMR 8102) of the CNRS, the Observatoire de Paris and the University of Paris and has its premises in the beautiful park of the Château de Meudon. The laboratory employs about fifty people.

The laboratory’s scientific activity is mainly focused on the theoretical study of astrophysical systems and their modelling, including the modelling of plasmas at
very high energy (GeV – TeV). Part of the activities also concerns the processing of data from high-energy observations.

LUTH will provide all the necessary means (office, workstation, scientific environment, travel budget) to carry out this work within its High Energy Phenomena team.

Sujet :
The LUTH (Paris Observatory) participates in the European project ESCAPE (European Science Cluster of Astronomy & Particle physics ESFRI research infrastructures) with a special focus on metadata of origin and access to Cherenkov data, in order to make the CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array) data “Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR)”.

The missions cover :
– integration of tools for building the source of data produced by CTA’s pipelines,
– development of tools for querying this data and testing of the scientific analysis platform within the framework of ESCAPE,
– definition and implementation of standards, in relation with the International Alliance of Virtual Observatories (IVOA),
– preparation and analysis of H.E.S.S. (and CTA) data, for example by getting involved in the development of Gammapy

The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the CTA consortium and the partners in ESCAPE. Active participation in the H.E.S.S. collaboration is possible.

The precise topic will depend on the interests and experience of the person recruited.

The successful candidate will be able to
1) participate in the development of the Gammapy software libraries and CTA pipeline, including the inclusion of provenance
2) interact with other ESFRIs involved in ESCAPE to develop common data access solutions (portal, format, analysis, etc)
3) to participate in the analysis of the data of the H.E.S.S. experience and related science

Profil du candidat :
Post-doctorate, with less than 2 years of experience after the thesis

Formation et compétences requises :
Candidates should have a good experience in software development and object-oriented programming, languages (Python, C++).
Skills in high energy astrophysics are a plus.

Experience and interest in one or more of the following areas would be relevant:
* Experience in continuous integration (e.g. Gitlab) and continuous deployment solutions (e.g. Docker)
* Knowledge of the technologies of scientific analysis platforms (e.g. Jupyter Hub)
* Experience with web application frameworks (e.g. Django, Flask)
